STOCKHOLM, May 28 (SCBR) — Fujian Department of Housing and Urban-rural Development delegation led by Deputy Director-General Wang Jiaxiang on Friday May 25 paid a visit to Sweden’s nearest city Enkoping on small city planning and construction as well as environmental protection.

Tomas Frisk, Information officer of Enkoping Municipality received the delegation and introduced Enkoping’s policy and practices in city planning, housing construction and water treatment practices.

“We have very detailed and strict approval system in city housing construction. It is all decided by the municipality on what kind of color the roof should have and what kind of color the house should have,” Frisk said.

But he stressed that the decision and approval process is also done in a democratic way with negotiations and discussions with the residence and builders.

Enkoping also uses treated waste water to build a water park which is also a process of further treating the waste water. The treated waste water coming from the water treatment plant is still dirty in many ways. Then they built a water park so that the water flows very slowly through high and low soil dams with different grasses and plants.

As a result, the place attracted more than 100 kinds of birds and many birds viewers. It is also a park for children to play. The waste water is also used to irrigate salix which is used as renewable energy raw material. With this fast growing and toxic matter attracting function, salix became the main material for renewable energy and heating and electricity production in Enkoping.

“60% of electricity in the town is produced here, 80% of the houses are warmed by the heat from here and 99.9 % of the raw material is renewable, so the emission is almost zero,” Frisk said.

Wang Jiaxiang said Enkoping’s practice in full cycle of treating the water and make use of the waste water to treat waste is worthwhile for the Chinese to learn.
