MOA posts guideline to develop markets in farm produce’s production places

BEIJING, June 19 (Greenpost) – China’s Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) publicized Friday on its website a guideline to develop markets in the production places of farm produce to boost modern agriculture.

The ministry proposed to build by 2020 a large number of marketplaces in advantageous production zones or production areas for characteristic agricultural products to directly serve farmers.

Under the objective, 30 nationwide production place-based markets, 300 regional markets alike and 1,000 field-based markets will be constructed to create a three-layer production place-based markets system for farm produce.

Essence Securities said in a recent report that the Internet is accelerating traditional agriculture’s transformation to modern agriculture and alongside popularization of the Internet in rural areas, E-commerce operators are predicted to hail a market of 460 billion yuan by 2016.

In the future, some stock investment opportunities may appear for related Chinese listed firms including Shenzhen Agricultural Products Co., Ltd. (000061.SZ), Kingenta Ecological Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (002470.SZ), Anhui Huilong Agricultural Means of Production Co., Ltd. (002556.SZ), and Zhejiang Netsun Co., Ltd. (002095.SZ), the broker said. (Edited by Duan Jing, duanjing@xinhua.org)

Across China: Shanghai FTZ to speed up customs clearance for imported products

Across China: Shanghai FTZ to speed up customs clearance for imported products

SHANGHAI, June 18 (Greenpost) — China’s border inspectors and customs authorities said Thursday that they will streamline clearance for products to be sold within the Shanghai free trade zone, the latest of a string of measures to encourage cross-border e-commerce to resuscitate tumbling trade growth.

The streamlined process would shorten the time between products’ arrival at the port to being put on the shelves in the FTZ by up to 80 percent.

China’s foreign trade growth came in way below the 7.5 percent target set for last year and latest official data also show trade slumping 7.8 percent during the first five months this year from the same period a year ago.

Speedier customs clearance is particularly important for farm produce, meat and fishery products as they have shorter shelf life and require more sophisticated and costlier storage to stay fresh.

Authorities also gave the greenlight on Thursday to allow companies in the FTZ to sell imported fresh products such as fruits and meat.

Imported seafood, wines, fruits and other fresh food sold at the store in Shanghai FTZ have been popular and were often sold out last year, as Chinese consumers are showing a growing appetite for what they see as quality products from countries like United States and Japan.

Authorities added that the speed of clearance will be based on the origin country’s quality safety record and the company’s quality control, meaning that importers with stringent quality control will move faster.

Shanghai customs will allow importers to deliver samples to be screened by air before the whole shipment arrives by sea, to shorten the time for clearance.

The process was used earlier this month to clear a batch of milk powder from Ireland, which was put on sale in the FTZ 11 days after reporting to customs, compared with 55 days before.

Cross-border sales have grown tenfold in the past four years in China to 20 billion dollars last year, according to research firm eMarketers. China’s Ministry of Commerce has predicted sales through cross-border e-commerce to hit 1 trillion next year and will eventually take up one fifth of the country’s total trade volume. Enditem

China creates open, fair atmosphere for regional trade

China creates open, fair atmosphere for regional trade

Stockholm, June 18 (Greenpost) — China always applies itself to create an open and fair environment for regional trade and investment, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks after China and Australia signed a free trade agreement (FTA) on Wednesday after a decade of negotiations.

In early June, China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) also signed an FTA, another step to consolidate all-round cooperation.

“We are happy to see that our efforts have succeeded in removing obstacles and made steady progress, resulting in new achievement one after another,” Lu said.

Lu said Asia has become an important engine for global economic growth and will provide critical support to China’s development and prosperity.

The vast majority of countries in the region are more concerned about development, Lu said, noting that these countries want to expand cooperation. Enditem

Alg Park in Umea Sweden 瑞典于默奥麋鹿园

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

Stockholm, Sept 27(Greenpost) – From Umeå’s city center to Alg Park, we took the bus and it took an hour. The sceneries along the road is very beautiful, very green and I didn’t feel bus sick. That’s the proof of the beauty.

The park is natural and big. The only sign is the coffee shop and the museum and an alg head at the gate. The museum holds real samples of bear, alg, various alg’s horns and the skins.

The owner of the park is a family of father and son. The father speaks Swedish while the son can speak English. So he gave a good introduction to us about the park.

IMG_3469

“Sami people always raise rendeer, they don’t have alg. Over the years, we have sold more than 100 algs (to various parks). There has always been animal parks which have alg inside. That is not a new thing. But like this, the park is only for alg, we were alone. But now I believe, there are 20 such parks that only host alg. But they don’t keep them tame. They don’t spend time with them. So they always come to us to buy new algs, as long as there is enough space and food, they don’t need to spend time to keep them tame. We sell them.

But sometimes we see that is not working and we don’t sell to them. ” said Daniel.

Q: What’s the secret to keep them tame?

A: Just spend time with them. It’s like any animal, you have to spend time with them. I mean when we go inside like this, a lot of children, even though I said don’t cross the fence, everyone still walk behind the fence. So we really need to know them more. I can tell these algs are not in a good mood, we have to go out. Those decisions we need to take sometimes, just because we need to be safe because only one accident is one accident and that is too much of course. And you can never be 100 percent sure. Accidents happens. That is life. But we really try not to have accidents.”

Q: What could happen?

A: They could kick someone. They could get scared, even though they are tamed, by instinct when they feel scared, they could run out of danger. If they see a bear or a woof, their

defence system is to run and escape. If something happens, and one gets panic and begins to run, everyone else will join. And if there is a lot of people, they can be stepped down. Nothing like that has ever happened, but it could happen, even ourselves have to be careful. We try to make it never happen.

Q: How old is an alg?

A: 22 years. We run this park for 19 years, so we don’t have more than 19 years old Alg.

They only eat vegetables and grass, tree leaves and so on. We have to carry in the food for them everyday. We could also give them the same food the sami people give rendeer. In the stable there are some pills that is rendeer food. Alg eats from trees and from high up, rendeer eat from the ground, some winters we have some snow, then it gets melt when it is warm, then it is cold again, so the whole winter is covered by ice, it is almost impossible for the rendeer to find their food because they only eat from the ground. So those years are tough for the Sami people. And then they need these extra food for rendeer. The alg eat them almost the same. It is perfect for alg. It is good. They also eat banana and potatoes. They like them, sometimes they even push each other when we put banana into the park. My father trained them to eat bananas.

We have to carry in food. Up there in the park, you can see a line on how high they can reach. Below that sharp line, they eat out everything. So without our feeding them, this is a far small area for them. they need larger (areas).

Mating season

Daniel said the algs do not live in group or families, they are individuals. The only time they go together is during the mating season. Then they can go together. Then of course the mother will go with their calves during the first year. After a year, she kicked them away before she got new calves. The mother always goes with her calves. They always have new calves every year. The mating season is in October. And they get the calves at the end of May. Only once a year. They got pregnant about 8 months.

They try once and if he didn’t get the female pregnant, he will try again two weeks later. It is a law of jungle. The strongest alg will get all the females, the weak one doesn’t have a chance. So the stronger one is the happy one, the weak one has no girlfriend.

IMG_3471

It can be hard, they loose weight a lot. They have to do everything themselves. Sometimes it can go wrong. They walk right after they were born. Five minutes they can walk. They have to try because if they can’t stand up, they can’t reach the milk, then they will have to die.

Most animals are like that. They will feed the calf by standing. Unlike the dog or pig who can lie down when breast feeding. It is real law of jungle and those who can fit, survive.

IMG_3472

Alg has lived in different areas. The big and strong ones always survived. Up in the north, it is difficult to live and the strong ones survive. There are more alg in the whole Sweden. But where there is wolf, there is no alg. Alg in the south is smaller because the climate is easier.

Commentary: Suu Kyi’s China debut underscores common wish for better ties

Commentary: Suu Kyi’s China debut underscores common wish for better ties

Stockholm, June 10 (Xinhua) — Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi is set to start her first visit to China on Wednesday.

In the past few days since the Communist Party of China (CPC) announced Suu Kyi’s acceptance of an invitation to visit China, there has been some excitement among observers of China-Myanmar relations, and it is believed the debut trip underscores a common wish of the two nations to improve ties.

As is known to many, the CPC communicates not only with foreign political parties that adopt the same ideology, but also those with a different political vision.

The invitation extended to Suu Kyi is a proof that the CPC stands ready to engage with any political parties as long as they are willing to promote the sound development of relations with China.

Since 2010, the China-Myanmar relations have witnessed some disturbances, with several key cooperation projects, including a water dam and a copper mine, being brought to a standstill.

The two countries have made progress in addressing these undesired events and both sides have the will to keep things going that way. After all, neither side wants to ditch the friendship that has been there for decades in the face of a few challenges.

As an important politician in Myanmar, Suu Kyi must have a very thorough understanding of the special bond between the two countries, as shown by the famous comparison she drew: not like married couples who could always get a divorce if they do not get along, nothing can be done to change the fact that China and Myanmar are each other’s neighbor.

In its dealings with neighboring countries, China, as a regional economic powerhouse and vital facilitator for development, has adhered to the principles of mutual benefits and win-win cooperation.

China welcomes anyone with friendly intentions and it bears no grudge for past unpleasantness.

It is hoped the upcoming visit by Suu Kyi will enhance mutual understanding and promote cooperation and friendly relations between China and Myanmar.

There is also a reminder: China has no intention to interfere in Myanmar’s internal affairs, but is determined to protect its citizens from being caught in a war launched from the other side of the border.

Myanmar has to honor its commitment to safeguarding security and stability on the China-Myanmar border and do the utmost to avoid incidents such as stray bombs on Chinese soil. Enditem

China approves new infrastructure projects

Stockholm, June 10 (Greenpost) — China’s top economic planner announced Wednesday it has approved feasibility reports on seven new infrastructure projects, a sign of quickened fiscal spending to spur slowing growth.

The projects, including railways and airports, have combined investment of over 120 billion yuan (19.7 billion U.S. dollars), according to the website of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

The four airport projects are in the provinces of Hainan, Heilongjiang, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. One railway project is planned in Guangxi Autonomous Region, and another will link Shangqiu-Hefei-Hangzhou.

The NDRC also approved an experiment base for China Academy of Civil Aviation Science and Technology Center for Aviation Safety Technology.

The projects will be funded by the central budget, local fiscal funds, and bank loans, according to the NDRC.

The government is looking to boost infrastructure investment to support faltering growth.

Earlier this year, railway construction was upgraded, including the raising of planned fixed-asset investment to 800 billion yuan, putting 7,000 km of new railways into operation and kicking off 64 new railway projects.

Economic growth slowed to 7 percent in the first quarter this year, down from 7.3 percent the previous quarter, fuelling speculation that further policy easing measures are on the horizon. Enditem

CRI Mourns First English Anchor

CRI Mourns First English Anchor

A memorial service has been held in Beijing for the first English announcer of the People’s Republic of China, Wei Lin, who passed away on Friday.
43681977bcf84394889414ca0c4d2ca7
She was 91.

Wei Lin was the anchor of a 20-minute inaugural English news program on the war-time Shanbei Xinhua Radio run by the Communist Party of China in 1947.
That program went on air on September 11 that year.

The date has been designated as the birthday of the English Service of China Radio International.

Wei Lin was also the news anchor announcing the formation of the new Chinese government in 1949.

ed7b6927c5db4162b4a3ae39202b3c06“We now bring you the proclamation of the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China, read by Chairman Mao Zedong of the Central People’s Government at the gigantic rally which is now being held in Peking to celebrate the formation of the Central People’s Government.”

Wei Lin anchored a variety of shows including news and features at the English Service of CRI during her long career.

She retired in 1983 but continued to do part-time work as a volunteer.

Source                   www.crienglish.com

Editor’s note: Wei Lin was like a super star in our heart. Although she retired in 1983, she was still showing up in many occasions in CRI. When I joined CRI in 1990, I was coached by her disciple Jin Meifen to be an announcer. I was coached by Zhang Qingnian and Chen Yuanneng too.

Wei Lin was a very loving person. When she was 70 years old, her voice still sounded very young and her articulation was the best in reading English news.

As the first anchor in CRI, she was such a devoted, dedicated and loyal person to the broadcasting cause. Her spirit and the spirit of her generation was very respectable. Without them, there wouldn’t have been China.

May her live in our heart forever!

China to invest RMB17 trln in environmental protection in 2016-2020

Stockholm, June 10 (Greenpost) – China is estimated to invest over 17 trillion yuan in environmental protection in 2016-2020, according to Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning.

China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) would focus on improving environmental quality in compiling national environmental protection plan for 2016-2020, which is expected to be submitted to the State Council for approval in March 2016.

The new five-year plan would add targets on improvement of environmental quality beside existing targets on cut or control of overall emissions, said a report by Economic Information Daily on Wednesday.

The environmental protection plan would involve green economy, nuclear safety, soil protection, biological protection as well as prevention and treatment of water pollution.

China would introduce amount control mechanisms over newly-added industrial smoke and dusts, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), total nitrogen and total phosphorus in 2016-2020. (Edited by Liu Yanan, liuyn@xinhua.org)

China’s top coal firms dismiss merger rumors

China’s top coal firms dismiss merger rumors

Stockholm, June 9 (Greenpost) — China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd. and China Coal Energy Co., Ltd., the nation’s leading coal producers, on Tuesday dismissed reports of a merger.

The two companies said neither they nor their parent companies have been informed on the matter of merger from government departments; meanwhile, neither company has talked with other companies or departments about any merger, according to separate statements by the two companies filed to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

In the mainland stock market on Tuesday, shares of both companies surged by the daily limit of 10 percent. In Hong Kong, China Shenhua rose more than 3.6 percent; China Coal Energy gained nearly 7.5 percent.

There were rumors last month that China was considering massive mergers and acquisitions of its biggest state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to prevent in-fighting and build industrial giants able to face global competitors. A total of 112 centrally-administered SOEs were said to likely be cut by more than half to 40.

However, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission later said reports about such massive M&As were “unverified.” Enditem
